Rich takes us through his own transformation from college swimmer to alcoholic, overworked, overweight, and stressed lawyer to ultra-fit, admirably healthy, plant eating, endurance athlete. Rich does not sanitise his low moments or his rehabilitation experiences. Reading Finding Ultra, as a non-addict, did not diminish its relatability because ultimately it is a story of human triumph, of how a man reinvented himself and found his passion.
